The 6 Intuitive Types
The word ‘Clair’ means clear in French. Each of the six intuitive types below describes a different sense through which clarity as intuition tends to arrive.
1. Clairaudience (hearing)
The intuitive ability to hear psychic guidance. It often arrives in moments of danger, decision, or crisis, like a clear inner voice cutting through the noise.
2. Clairvoyance (seeing)
Intuition arriving as inner sight, e.g. images, symbols, or impressions that show you something beyond the present moment.
3. Claircognizance (knowing)
Intuition that arrives complete, with no traceable path of reasoning. The mathematician Ramanujan is said to have received entire formulas this way, e.g. knowing the result perfectly, without knowing how he arrived at it.
4. Clairsentience (feeling)
The intuitive ability to sense the energy and emotions of others. At its root is usually empathy, simply because you can feel what they are feeling.
5. Clairalience (smelling)
Intuition that arrives through scent or smell with no physical source. It’s often linked to the presence of a loved one who has passed, or to a memory resurfacing.
6. Clairgustance (tasting)
Intuition that arrives as a taste with nothing physically present to cause it. It’s frequently tied to the memory of a deceased relative or a moment from the past.

Scoring your results
Count your answers and write your totals below. The letter you chose most frequently reveals the intuitive style with the most fertile ground for you to grow, nurture or develop right now.
a = Clairsentience (feeling) b = Claircognizance (knowing) c = Clairvoyance (inner seeing)
d = Clairaudience (hearing) e = Clairalience (smelling) f = Clairgustance (tasting)
Your most natural intuitive style to nurture
A. Clairsentience or feeling
Your body is already fluent in sensation, touch, and feeling, which means this is the channel requiring the least new groundwork. You don't need to learn a new intuitive language; you can simply start listening to the one you already speak.
A short daily body-scan, a Reiki self-treatment or a hand resting for a few minutes on your own chest before a decision, will develop this gift faster than almost any other practice could.
“My body already tells me everything. I just haven't been listening consciously.”
B. Claircognizance or inner knowing
You already trust your own snap judgements more than most people trust theirs, which makes this the easiest style to formalise into a practice. The foundation of stillness and self-trust is already there; what's missing is simply the habit of pausing long enough to notice the knowing before you talk, or think yourself out of it.
A daily one-line journal of ‘what do I already know about this?’ will build this quickly.
“I was already making decisions this way. Now I trust it consciously.”
C. Clairvoyance or inner seeing
Visual thinking already comes naturally to you, so this is the gift with the shortest distance between where you are and where you want to be. You already daydream, picture, and notice images - the only new step is treating those images as information rather than a distraction.
A daily minute of eyes-closed visualisation will turn an existing habit into an intuitive practice.
“I was already picturing it inwardly. I just hadn't been connecting to what I was seeing.”
D. Clairaudience or listening / hearing
Sound, silence, and listening already hold a natural place in your life, which means the conditions for this gift are already built. You don't need to create new habits from nothing; you need to extend ones you already enjoy, like quiet time or music, or moving inwardly to a few minutes of deliberate, receptive listening in silence.
This is often the fastest gift to develop precisely because the listening muscle is already warmed up.
“I was already comfortable with silence. Now I'm using it deliberately on purpose.”
E. Clairalience or smelling
Scent already plays a large role in your daily life and memory, giving you a head start most people don't have. Because your nose is already this attuned, a simple practice of pausing to consciously notice smells, rather than registering them only in passing, can develop this gift with very little extra effort.
“I was already noticing the smell. I just hadn't connected to what it meant.”
F. Clairgustance or tasting
Taste and flavour already command your attention more than they do for most people, which makes mindful eating a natural next step rather than a new skill.
A practice as simple as eating one meal a day in complete, unhurried, conscious attention will turn an existing sensitivity into a reliable intuitive channel.
“I was already tasting closely. Now I'm more deeply connected to what its telling me.”
Every intuitive sense can be developed in time. The one closest to the surface will always be the easiest place to begin.
